How You Do One Thing Is How You Do Everything

There’s always a golden thread if you look back to see it.

Over the holidays, I was cleaning out some files and boxes that I hadn’t gone through since we moved almost two years ago. It was one of those tasks I kept putting off but finally found the time to tackle.

Among the notepads and resources, was an old workbook from a workshop I attended back in 2017, titled “Starting a Creative Business”. At the time, we were in the process of opening a Brick & Mortar Community Art Studio - Art In The Ward - which we opened just 3 days before having our 3rd baby! I joined the workshop to expand my knowledge, make connections in the local community, and learn what I didn’t know about running a creative business.

As I flipped through the workbook, I landed on a section titled “The Heart of Your Business”. The exercise guided us through defining our vision, mission, and purpose in a single statement.

In 2017, here’s what I wrote:

“I envision creating a world where people feel connected to themselves through art, inviting them into an experience and story.”

Reading that statement again, I realized something powerful—it wasn’t just about the art studio. It was a reflection of something deeper that had always been part of who I am.

It was the golden thread!

I flashed back to my years as a teacher, when someone once asked me why I wanted to become a teacher. My answer was almost identical in spirit:

“I want to create an experience where kids feel connected to themselves, part of a community, and have 6 hours a day that could be a light in their world.”

I saw it in my love of team sports too—being part of a team where everyone felt connected, contributing to a shared mission, and creating joyful experiences together.

How you do one thing is how you do everything.

That same golden thread runs through everything I’ve created in my business today:

It’s why I founded the Momentum Community—to give heart-centered entrepreneurs a space to connect to themselves and a community of entrepreneurs through their work, build a life they love, and shine brightly as they share their gifts with the world.

It’s why I launched the Publishing House—to provide visionary entrepreneurs with a platform to share their wisdom and stories, connect deeply with their mission, and inspire transformation in their readers and communities.

Looking back, it’s clear that this thread of connection, purpose, and creating experiences that invite others into a story has always been part of how I approach everything. Whether it was in teaching, sports, or business, it’s all woven together by the same desire:

To help others feel connected—to themselves, to their purpose, and to a larger story.

How you do one thing is how you do everything.

Take a moment to reflect—

What’s the golden thread in your life?

How has your purpose shown up in different ways across different seasons of your journey?

I’d love to hear your story!
